Author Biography

Demilade Oyatemi, University of Saskatchewan

Demilade Otayemi is a visual artist and designer from Nigeria whose practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation. His work explores the intersections of identity, faith, memory, and material transformation; drawing on everyday objects and cultural motifs to question how identity migrates and endures. Based in Saskatchewan, Canada, he holds an MFA from the University of Saskatchewan, where his 2024 thesis exhibition Ajakubo traced the whirlwind journey of belonging — how movement, displacement, and passage shape the self and its sense of home. His work has been shown in Nigeria and Canada and is held in private and institutional collections, including the Engineering Design Mutualism Laboratory, University of Saskatchewan.
